Fernando Santos has refused to confirm whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be the captain of his team in the match against Switzerland, valid for the 1/8 finals in the World Cup “Qatar 2022”.
The 37-year-old was substituted in the 65th minute of the final Group H match against South Korea and appeared to be unhappy with the coach’s decision.
Santos did not like Ronaldo’s actions at all, who revealed this at today’s press conference.
“I didn’t like it, not at all. I really didn’t like it. But since that moment everything has ended in relation to this matter. These issues are resolved behind closed doors. It has been resolved. There is a stop to this issue and now everyone is focused on tomorrow’s game,” he initially said.
Furthermore, Santos did not confirm whether Ronaldo will be the captain in the match against Switzerland.
“I decide who will be the captain only when I get to the stadium. I still don’t know what the lineup will be. This is what I have always done and this is what I will always do and it will be the same tomorrow”, declared the coach of the Portuguese national team.
The match between Portugal and Switzerland will take place on Tuesday night.
