Mexico coach Tata Martino announces his resignation

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino spoke to the media after Mexico was eliminated from the World Cup

Mexico will officially look for a new national team coach after Gerardo Martino confirmed that he will no longer continue in this position. However, there are some nuances that must be addressed after listening to the last words of the Argentine manager. First, Martino hasn’t tried to do something that other managers have done in the past since his contract with Mexico was at an end. For example, Juan Carlos Osorio did not say much when he ended the management of the National Team in 2018 despite being eliminated in the 1/8 finals.

Roughly two hours after the final whistle, the Argentina manager was in the conference room to talk about the final score. Martino spoke of a botched process that sent them knocking out as early as the group stage at the World Cup, the first time since 1978.

“I am the only person responsible for this despair that we are sharing together today. We account for failure in this World Cup. My contract ended when the referee blew the final whistle during the World Cup. We have nothing more to do,” said Martino about his future, which is a very diplomatic statement.
