Messi is only manageable by PSG

La Liga president Javier Tebas has questioned Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona, ??saying only PSG can meet his high wage demands

While Barca coach Xavi has said recently that he welcomes the opportunity to train Messi, the president of La Liga has his doubts about it. Tebas questioned the Argentine’s motives and the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain letting him leave, before saying the salary he currently earns in the French capital is not within La Liga’s financial regulations.

“I don’t know what Messi wants,” Tebas said at a ceremony for the Spanish magazine Ejecutivos. “First of all, if he wants to leave PSG; second, if PSG allows him to leave and, third, it depends on how much he earns? If these three things fall out of place and there is an affordable amount for Barcelona things can change, within the financial rules of La Liga he can sign. But that depends on what he earns. If he earns what he earned when he left, then no. With the amount that Messi earns (at this moment), only PSG can afford it.”

Messi bid an emotional farewell to the Catalan club in 2021 after Barcelona were unable to meet his wage demands following La Liga’s strict financial rules. Roughly a year and a half in the French capital, where Messi has scored 23 goals and made 28 assists, rumors about the Argentinian’s future are leading media headlines. The latest is his multi-million dollar move to MLS side Inter Miami.

Messi for 32 games has become the second fastest player to reach 20 assists in Ligue 1 since this record was recorded during the 2006/07 season, behind Di Maria who achieved it after 31 games.

With his future at the club uncertain, Messi must now put in a heroic performance for Argentina in a win against Poland on Wednesday at the World Cup. The Albicelestes need a win to secure qualification to the 1/8 finals.
