Liverpool remain interested in Hincapie, expected to make a bid in January

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in Piero Hincapie.

Jurgen Klopp wanted his transfer even during the summer, but an agreement was not reached and the player continues to be part of Bayer Leverkusen.

However, according to “Bild”, Liverpool remain interested in the defender of the German team, with the English club could attempt to transfer him in January.

Manuel Sierra, Hincapie’s agent, recently explained to the South American media why a deal did not happen in the summer, but could happen in the winter term.

“Liverpool were interested in him, but at the time they preferred to invest in midfield. We will talk to them in January, as we do with other clubs. It will be for no less than 50 million euros”, he said for “Futbol sin Cassette”.

“We met in January and May but we haven’t heard from Liverpool since May. Of course, we were surprised that they suddenly appeared with an offer. The first thing they said to us was: ‘Tomorrow you have to go to Liverpool until you pass a medical’. How should we react to this when we haven’t negotiated, haven’t talked, and haven’t seen anything since May?” Sierra added.

Hincapie made 43 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen last season but has played just 132 minutes in total in all competitions this term as he struggles to establish himself in the starting line-up for Xabi Alonso’s side.

He is a player who operates mainly as a centre-back and has the strengths of his aerial duels, shots and passes from the back.

Piero Hincapie has a valid contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the summer of 2027. Based on “Transfermarkt”, the representative of Ecuador is valued at 35 million euros.
