Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti has said that Barcelona midfielder Frank Kessie wants to return to Milan, but the Reds are not ready to reunite with their former star.
The Ivorian footballer joined the Catalan giants as a free agent without a contract, ending his five-year stay with the San Siro side.
However, he has struggled to play this season, playing a total of 485 minutes in 13 games.
“I spoke to a friend of mine who is close to Kessie’s agents and he told me that Kessie would like to return to Milan,” Pellegatti said in a video he published on his official YouTube channel.
Pellegatti is one of the best-known Milan journalists in Italy, having covered the club’s successes in Italy and Europe for more than 30 years for Italian television, Mediaset – which is owned by former Reds president Silvio Berlusconi. .
“When Kessie joined Barcelona last summer, people who understand football more than me told me that they have chosen the most unsuitable team for him,” Pellegatti continued.
“These types of players are far from their mentality, Barcelona wants players who have completely different characteristics.”
“It was sad to see him suffer so much playing full-back against Inter, running in behind Robin Gosens who was crucial to the 3-3 draw. Then he got injured and I believe it’s psychosomatic injury. It can happen when someone is unhappy, so it reflects on someone’s body.”
However, the Reds are not considering the return of their former midfielder to the club, according to Pellegatt.
“Until today, the hypothesis (for his return) is remote, not to say impossible, although it is wrong to say this in football. I believe that Milan considers the experience with Kessie finished at this moment”.
“I don’t think Milan wants an agreement with his agents again. The relationship is cold, so the idea of ??negotiating with them again is not liked in Milan. Maybe, but even Atangana doesn’t want to talk to Milan”.
Kessie joined Milan from Atalanta in a €28m deal in 2017. He scored 37 goals in 223 appearances for the Reds and was one of the best as Milan won the Scudetto after 11 years in the 2021/22 season.
He signed a contract until June 2026 with the Camp Nou side, while Milan failed to find a replacement for the 25-year-old last summer, keeping Tommaso Pobega in the squad following his return from a loan deal in Turin.
