Senegal have confirmed that Sadio Mane will not play at the World Cup in Qatar due to an injury he suffered before the competition
In a press conference held on November 17, Senegal confirmed that Mane will not recover from the injury he suffered before the World Cup and will miss the tournament in Qatar as a result, with Senegal playing against the Netherlands on Monday in Group A.
Mane picked up a foot injury in Bayern’s match against Werder Bremen before the World Cup and was a doubt to play in the competition. Despite the initial belief by the Senegalese Football Federation that the 30-year-old could miss the first few games, it has now been officially confirmed that the star of this national team will not play at the World Cup.
It is bitter news for Mane, who led Senegal to win the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2022.
Qatar will not, unfortunately for Mane. Instead he will watch the championship from the sidelines as he tries to recover to return in January for Bayern in Germany.
