Ilkay Gundogan was made official yesterday as a new player of Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the Turkish midfielder with a German passport has revealed details of the phone call he had with coach Pep Guardiola when he left Manchester City.
“It was one of the hardest calls I’ve ever had. All I could do was thank him. Not only for this season and for all the trophies, but for the fact that he brought me to Manchester. I will never forget when I injured my knee at the end of the season with Borussia Dortmund (in 2016) and had to have surgery. I was afraid that City wouldn’t want me anymore”, the German representative tells the British medium “Daily Mail”.
“Pep called me on the phone and told me that he would wait for me no matter how long it takes to recover and come back. Maybe he hoped that we would continue to be together, as we have been until now, but I know that he understands my decision. I’m sure that the fact that I’m going to his club is a help and eases his pain a little”, concluded the creative midfielder.
