Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has recently revealed that the Red Devils were very close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in 2013.
Ronaldo was part of Real Madrid during that time, until Bale joined the same club that summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo was part of Manchester United earlier, during the period 2003 – 2009, before moving to Real Madrid.
Although Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans to bring him back in 2013 fell through, he found his way to Manchester in 2021 when he moved from Juventus. Then, Ronaldo left in November 2022 for Saudi Arabia, where he plays for Al-Nassr.
Meanwhile, Gareth Bale never played for the “Red Devils”. He joined Real Madrid in 2013 from Tottenham before moving to the US for Los Angeles FC before retiring in 2023.
On the Obi One Podcast, Patrice Evra revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson planned Ronaldo’s return and Bale’s signing.
“Sir Alex Ferguson said that Ronaldo had 99% agreed to return and that Bale would sign. It took him £200 million. The club refused to give him that money. This was in 2013”, said Evra.
Evra also revealed that Ferguson wanted to win more Champions Leagues with Manchester United and that he believed that Ronaldo and Bale would enable him to do so.
Bale and Ronaldo won the Champions League five times, four together during their time at Real Madrid.
Sir Alex Ferguson retired from his managerial career at the end of the 2012/13 season, after 27 years in charge of Manchester United.
