Erling Haaland the best footballer in the Premier League for the 2022/23 season

Erling Haaland has won the Premier League Player of the Year award after breaking Manchester City’s goalscoring record

The Norwegian striker was honored with the award by the Premier League’s professional footballers after scoring 52 goals last season to help City win the treble.

Haaland was in attendance to receive the award in person at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester as he beat Harry Kane, who was second top scorer last year, but also his City team-mates Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones, as well as Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Haaland scored 36 goals on his debut in the Premier League, thus breaking the record of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer who had scored 34 goals each during the seasons 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively, when at that time 42 games were played in the league instead of 38 like today.

He is also the top scorer in the Champions League, with 12 goals scored as City won the award for the first time in their history. He also helped “cityzens” to win the FA Cup, thus becoming the second English team to win the treble in history.

Haaland (22) was also nominated in the category for the best Young Footballer in the Premier League, but lost this award in the competition with Bukayo Saka. Both footballers, however, are among the 11 best footballers of last season, where Odegaard and De Bruyne are also included.

The City striker averaged a goal every 77 minutes in the Premier League last season.
