Deschamps: Pogba ‘cannot be happy’ at Manchester United

France manager Didier Deschamps believes Paul Pogba can’t be pleased with how things are going at Manchester United.

“He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning,” France’s World Cup-winning handler told reporters, according to Reuters.

“He is not in his best period, he has had a series of injuries and the COVID-19 which has hit him quite hard. He needs to find his rhythm.

“With me, there is no such concern,” Deschamps added. “When a player is in discomfort in his club, obviously, he is happy to play for the France team. He will tell me about his feelings and as I know him very well, it will go in a positive direction.”

Pogba could be forgiven for lacking match sharpness as he joins his national team over November’s international break. The 27-year-old has started only half of United’s 10 games across Premier League and Champions League duty this season.

Earlier this month, Pogba criticized himself for making a “stupid mistake” which allowed Arsenal to score a match-winning penalty at Old Trafford, as quoted by BBC Sport’s Simon Stone. The midfielder’s clumsy challenge on Hector Bellerin resulted in the decisive spot-kick, and meant Pogba had given away three penalties during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as United manager. No other player has conceded more than one.

Pogba is regularly the subject of rumors that he wants to leave United, and fueled such reports in October when he said moving to Real Madrid would be a “dream” for him.

Pogba is in contention to play for France in Wednesday’s friendly with Finland before Les Bleus continue their Nations League campaign with matches against Portugal and Sweden.
