Brazil asked Guardiola as a coach, he renewed with City

Legendary striker Ronaldo Nazario has revealed that Brazil wanted to hire Pep Guardiola as manager, but he preferred to stay at Manchester City instead.

After the disappointment of a World Cup midway exit – where Brazil let an extra-time lead slip away against Croatia – the Canaries are looking for a new coach. This is because, immediately after the defeat, Tite resigned from his role with the Selecao who seems to have asked Guardiola for this role shortly before the start of the World Cup.

“There was interest in Guardiola, which was discussed with his coaching staff, but he preferred to renew his contract with Manchester City. It would be difficult to reach an agreement with the CBF (Brazilian Football Federation), since he is the highest paid coach in the world,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying to the Catalan media.

In November, the former Barcelona coach decided to sign a two-year contract with Manchester City, which will keep him in England until 2025. Which means that despite the vacancy in Brazil, a move for Guardiola does not seem likely in this moment.

The City manager is expected to return to action with his side on November 22 when they play Liverpool at home in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Before this match they will play a friendly against Girona on Saturday.
