Barcelona have confirmed Frenkie de Jong is injured but have refused to say how long he will be out, with fears he won’t be back until November.
The Dutch midfielder had to replace Gavin at half-time during Barcelona’s 3-2 win against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Although the club has confirmed the knee injury they have refused to say how long he will be out and when he will return.
“Tests have been done for Frenkie de Jong which show that he has suffered an injury to his right knee of the tibiofibular syndesmosis type. He will not be able to play at the moment, his recovery dictates his return”, says the press release issued by Barcelona.
But, according to what the Spanish newspaper Diario AS wrote, the footballer is expected to be out for five to seven weeks. This means that De Jong is likely to miss the first El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 28.
De Jong is expected to miss Barcelona’s next two games next week as they play Mallorca and Sevilla.
He may also miss the match against Porto in the Champions League on October 4 and the next match against Granada four days later, on October 8, when there is also a two-week break for the National Team matches.
