Carlo Ancelotti spoke at the press conference after the victory over Borussia Dortmund.
The coach of Real Madrid praised the team for last night’s performance in the 5:2 victory, although in the first half it was at a disadvantage of 0:2.
“We talked calmly about changing things in the second half. I shifted the system and the team brought more intensity. We were quite timid in the first half, we didn’t press and we let them control the game. They scored two relatively easy goals and it was clear that we needed changes. The team did a great job in the second half. The second half was the best of our season, with better pressure, higher intensity. The second part showed what we should do and how we should do it. It could be a key moment of our season”, declared Ancelotti after the game.
“I can explain this game like this: we were quite timid in the first half and we lacked intensity. We were organized, but we didn’t put pressure on the ball and they controlled the game. We had our chances and shot the crossbar, but we were a bit more reserved than we should have been. Taking more risks in the second half, we played with more energy. We must always press because we have the physical ability to do so,” continued the Italian coach.
“At halftime I told the players that scoring three goals would be ideal and where we should focus: not making mistakes in passing, winning our duels, pressing better, showing intensity raised. This is the dynamic of the new game. Everything changed with our first goal”, concluded the coach of “Los Blancos”.
