Nagelsmann starts his adventure in Germany with victory

Julian Nagelsmann’s reign as Germany coach began with a win as the Euro 2024 hosts beat the USA in a friendly.

The night started badly as Christian Pulisic headed home to put the hosts ahead.

But Germany were the better side and a routine strike from Ilkay Gundogan drew them level in Connecticut.

Nagelsmann’s side improved greatly in the second half and Niclas Fullkrug and Jamal Musiala scored to seal a comfortable victory.

Nagelsmann, 36, was given a contract until July 2024 after Hansi Flick was sacked in September following a poor run of results, culminating in a 4-1 defeat by Japan.
