Kylian Mbappe reportedly met with Robert Lewandowski, who was at Bayern Munich at the time, to convince him to join the Ligue 1 champions.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer transfer window, as he will now face Mbappe in Sunday’s France-Poland Round of 16 clash at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Having signed a contract extension with PSG in May this year, Mbappe urged the club to sign a top-class striker.
The former Monaco forward believes he works best alongside a striker such as Lewandowski, and therefore sought to recruit the Polish forward.
According to Le Parisien, Mbappe went as far as meeting Lewandowski on May 26 in Cannes, however, the Polish captain ultimately decided to join Barcelona, meaning the French striker’s efforts fell through.
