Speaking ahead of France’s World Cup match against Australia, Eduardo Camavinga said Karim Benzema was upset after being left out of the World Cup.
Benzema made efforts to recover in recent weeks, but failed to do so and left on Saturday night.
Speaking to “TF1” on Sunday morning, Didier Deschamps said he will not call a substitute.
Camavinga, who is Benzema’s teammate at Real Madrid, said he had spoken to the 34-year-old since his diagnosis but had not had the chance to meet him as he left Qatar early on Sunday morning.
“I didn’t see him leave training. It was during the match. Then he went for tests, but it was late and we all went to bed. We heard the news the next morning. It hurts but our objective does not change. We have a game coming up a long time,” Camavinga told reporters.
“We knew late in the evening that he wasn’t available, but he couldn’t tell us because he left early this morning. I have since messaged him. He was upset. It’s a blow, but we have many good players and we will fight for all those who didn’t have the chance to come”, declared the 20-year-old.
